Responsible AI

Safe AI for heart health

Hello Heart uses safe AI to deliver a more proactive and personalized approach to heart health, with clinical guardrails, privacy protections, clinician oversight, and client control built in.

Why safe AI matters in heart health

Over 25% of people are already using AI for health advice1. The problem is that most of these tools are not designed specifically for cardiovascular care, may rely on broad public data and without understanding a member’s medical condition, context, privacy needs, or clinical risks.

Hello Heart is building a safer alternative: responsible AI designed for heart health, supported by clinical expertise and defined safety boundaries.

Nia, Hello Heart’s clinically trained AI chatbot

Hello Heart’s Medical Affairs team of preventive cardiologists, pharmacists and clinicians spent years developing Nia, Hello Heart’s AI heart health chatbot. Nia is trained and guided by clinicians using broadly accepted, evidence-based cardiovascular guidance and is designed to provide support between clinical visits while operating within clear safety boundaries.

Nia helps members better understand blood pressure, medications, and heart health behaviors without diagnosing conditions, changing treatment plans, or replacing physician judgment. Like a medical assistant, Hello Heart’s clinical experts constantly monitor Nia’s responses to ensure she is providing accurate, clinically safe support to members.

Developed with cardiovascular expertise and informed by evidence-based guidance from leading heart-health organizations such as the ACC and AHA.

How we use AI responsibly

Built for safety
Hello Heart’s AI is designed to operate within defined guardrails. Nia does not diagnose conditions, change medications, or replace physician judgment.
Human experts in the loop
Licensed clinicians, pharmacists, and medical experts help define workflows, review quality, and guide ongoing improvement. When AI surfaces a potential issue, human expertise remains central to the next step.
Workflow-constrained design
Hello Heart separates conversational support from clinical logic. AI helps members ask questions and understand information, while clinical guidance is routed through defined workflows with safety rules.
Continuous evaluation
Without rigorous evaluation, generative AI models can hallucinate, producing outputs that sound confident but are inaccurate. In many cases, these systems rely on users to catch errors and provide corrective feedback.

Hello Heart evaluates AI quality and safety through clinician-developed benchmarks, 24/7 monitoring, and ongoing clinician review to help maintain extremely high standards of accuracy over time.
Privacy and security by design
Member data is protected and used to support the member experience. Unlike most consumer solutions, Hello Heart does not serve ads, sell, or export member data outside our HIPAA-compliant environment. Client and member privacy remains core to how AI-enabled features are designed and deployed. Privacy and security matters.

Built on clinically validated guidelines, not the open web

General AI engines are often trained on broad internet content, which can include outdated, incomplete, or medically inaccurate information. Hello Heart’s AI is different.

Our AI is grounded in clinically validated medical guidelines from sources like the ACC and AHA, and is designed to support evidence-based cardiovascular care. Rather than pulling from the open web, our technology is built to provide guidance that reflects trusted clinical standards and the specific needs of each member.

This approach allows Hello Heart to deliver responsible, clinically informed guidance that helps members better understand their health and take meaningful action, while keeping safety, privacy, and clinical accuracy at the center of the experience.

100% Client choice and control over AI features

Hello Heart gives clients flexibility in how AI-enabled features like Nia are introduced for their population. Organizations can adopt AI at their own pace and choose which features to enable based on their policies, workforce needs, and internal readiness.

Clients who prefer a more conservative rollout can begin with Hello Heart’s connected devices, app, and digital coaching, then turn on additional AI-enabled features when ready.

This approach gives organizations control while still giving members access to proactive, personalized heart health support.

How Hello Heart uses AI

24/7 support with Nia
Nia, Hello Heart’s AI chatbot, helps members understand blood pressure readings, medications, and everyday heart health questions between clinical visits.
Personalized guidance
Our AI uses member health data, such as diagnoses, medications, risk factors, patterns, and behaviors to surface personalized guidance tailored to each person’s needs. This helps tailor education, reminders, and insights, while keeping support within defined clinical workflows and safety rules.
AI risk flags
Hello Heart uses AI to identify patterns that may indicate a member needs additional support, such as spikes in blood pressure or pulse, repeated elevated blood pressure readings, irregular heartbeats, medication interactions, medication non-adherence, or other risk factors.

When a member is at higher risk, Hello Heart can provide timely guidance and at-home self-triage that includes symptom checking, and/or direct them to their PCP or clinical team before their condition worsens. By surfacing potential issues earlier, AI risk flags support proactive care in two ways: helping members take earlier action to avoid unnecessary ER visits or hospitalizations, and helping members who may need urgent care get to the hospital sooner to minimize complications and reduce the risk of a longer stay.
Smarter medication adherence
AI can help identify when a member may not have the right medication routine or may need additional support, creating an opportunity for clinical pharmacist review through Hello Meds.
More relevant member experiences
AI-enabled features can help make education, reminders, and coaching feel more timely and personal, while staying within defined clinical workflows and safety rules.

What AI does not replace

AI can make support more continuous, more personalized, and more proactive. It cannot replace physicians, pharmacists, clinical judgment, or the trust people place in their care teams.

At Hello Heart, AI is built to enhance the care experience — not to take humans out of it.
